Configuration

Terminology

The main things we will deal with in Credops are:

  • Slack User Groups: In Slack there is a feature that allows creating a user group with a name that contains 1 or more slack users. Messages can be sent tagging this user group and it will alert whoever is currently a member of the user group. More details on the Slack website.

  • Crendentials: Credentials could be anything that has an expiry date and needs tobe renewed. It could be

    • SSL/TLS certificates

    • ApiTokens/ Keys

    • Oauth Secrets

    • Service Credentials

  • Adding a credential

Credential name: The name of the credential you are trying to track. Eg. AwsProdUser, SSLTokenForApis

Description: A description that will add more context to the key and will help the relevant engineer on the user group identify and renew the credential.

Expires At: The end date before which your crential needs to be renewed.

Select Channels: The slack user groups that you want to notify when your credentials is about to expire. Eg. #Devops, #AdminRenewals. More than one channel can be chosen here. All

  • Editing/ Marking a credential as renewed

Once a credential has been renewed, you would want to edit the Expires at Date to the new updated date. This editing can be done, using the Edit Config action.

You can also add/remove users groups that you want to send the expiry notification to.

  • Deleting a credential

If you no longer use this credential, it can be removed and no notifications will be sent in the future.
